Paragraph in Latin – roughly translated Know all men by these presents that I Popham Gardyner of parish of St Michael Bedwardine in the County of Worcester gentleman am firmly bound to William Walker of Tewkesbury cobbler in a Bond of £100 of lawful money of England …… to William Walker his attorney, heirs executors and assigns in future firmly bound by these presents Dated 28th April 1687

And in English:

The condition of the above obligation is such that if the above bounden Popham Gardyner his heirs executors administrators or assigns and every of them do and shall from time to time and at all times hereafter well and truly observe, perform, fulfil and accomplish and keep all and singular the covenants, promises, provisos and payments conditions articles sentences causes grants and agreements whatsoever, which on part or parts of the above bounden Popham Gardyner and Margery his wife and of either of them and of the heirs and assigns of them or either of them are and ought to be observed performed and fulfilled accomplished and kept – And which are contained specified and declared in one pair of Indentures of Bargain and Sale bearing equal date with the obligation above written and made between
  1. Popham Gardyner and Margery his wife
  2. William Walker
According to the purport true intent and meaning of the said Indentures that then and from thenceforth the obligation above written to be void and of none effect or else to be in full power force and virtue Signed – Popham Gardyner Witnesses: Samuel H. Hawling; Mathias Maid; Henry Hatton
